Getting Married at The Eddie Hotel & Farm: A Photographer & Videographer's Guide

We live in Bloomfield, just down the road from The Eddie Hotel & Farm, and we photographed and filmed Shelby & Kyle's wedding there in June 2026. This is the advice we give couples who book The Eddie: where we take photos, when the light is best, how to plan the day around it, and what happens if it rains.

Why The Eddie works on camera

The red barn was built in the 1860s, and it looks the way most people picture a County wedding: weathered wood, a green metal roof, and string lights after dark. The Eddie says the ceilings reach 50 feet at the highest point, which gives us room for wide shots of the dance floor without the room feeling cramped.

Outside, the pond, the pergola, the gardens and the fields are all a short walk from the barn. You get a lot of variety in your photos and film without losing any of your day to driving between locations.

Our favourite spots for photos and film

The pond. This is The Eddie's main ceremony site from spring through fall. Shelby walked down a grass aisle beside it with her dad, and the water and reeds behind the guests make the ceremony feel like it's part of the landscape.

The pergola. Our favourite frame on the property. Shelby & Kyle's first kiss happened here, with her veil catching the wind.

The dock. Perfect for a few quick portraits with the water behind you, and the spot where we photographed Shelby & Kyle with their Bernese mountain dog.

The barn and The Eddie sign at golden hour. The signature shot here. The barn catches warm, low light in the evening, and every couple should get at least a few minutes in front of it.

Inside the barn after dark. String lights overhead make the first dance and the party glow, on camera and in person.

Planning your timeline

Build the day around golden hour. Golden hour is the hour before sunset. At The Eddie that's about 8 to 9 pm in late June, and about 6 to 7 pm by late September. Set aside 20 minutes for portraits then. It's the one habit that improves every wedding gallery we deliver.

Get ready on site if you can. The Eddie has an air-conditioned Bridal Studio in the barn's west wing for wedding parties of up to 10, plus suites in the Main House and the Carriage House. Getting ready on the property keeps everyone close, and your morning photos and film get the barn and fields as a backdrop.

A sample timeline for a June wedding with a 5 pm ceremony:

1:00 pm · Details and getting ready

4:15 pm · First look and wedding party photos (optional)

5:00 pm · Ceremony at the pond

5:30 pm · Cocktail hour and family photos

6:30 pm · Dinner and speeches in the barn

8:00 pm · Golden hour portraits, about 20 minutes

8:30 pm · First dance, then the party

For a September wedding, shift the evening one to two hours earlier, depending on the date, so your portraits still land in golden hour.

If it rains

The Eddie's rain plan is the Sheep Shed, a 1920s building that the venue says seats up to 130, with tents available for larger groups. A rainy day at a barn venue still looks beautiful on camera: open barn doors, string lights and weathered wood all photograph well in soft, overcast light. If the rain stops even for a few minutes, we'll take you outside for portraits.

Photo and video in one team

Shelby & Kyle had both photo and film with us. One team means one timeline, nobody stepping into each other's shots, and a gallery and film that look like they belong together. Our wedding collections start at $3,500. See what's included.
