Here's what makes it so special, and what to think about when it comes to capturing it all on film.
Prince Edward County sits on a limestone plain surrounded by water on three sides, which means the light here is genuinely different. The golden hour stretches longer, softer, and more cinematic than almost anywhere else in Ontario. Whether you're getting married at a winery, a lakeside farm, or an intimate inn, the natural light does half the work for us.
For videography, this is gold — literally. If you're choosing a venue in The County, try to schedule your ceremony to end within an hour or two of sunset. The resulting footage is something couples watch for the rest of their lives.

The Drake Devonshire has an artful, editorial feel that suits modern couples perfectly. The historic barns of Cressy are pure magic for rustic celebrations. Waupoos Estates sits right on the water. Every one of these venues tells a different story — and that's what we love about filming in The County. There's no single "look." Each wedding is genuinely its own film.
Not all videographers are comfortable outside of city environments. When hiring a videographer for a County wedding, look for someone who has actually filmed here and understands the light, the geography, and the logistics. Ask to see full films from County venues specifically — not just highlight clips.
At Maple Tree Films, we're based in Prince Edward County year-round and have filmed at most of its major venues. We know where the light falls at 6pm in October. We know which barns have acoustic challenges. That local knowledge shows in the final film.
One thing that catches couples off guard: outdoor sound. The County is beautiful, but open-air ceremonies at wineries and farms can be challenging for audio. Wind, ambient noise, and distance from the officiant all interfere with capturing clear speech.
We always use dedicated radio microphones on the officiant and groom to capture clean audio regardless of conditions. When interviewing any videographer for an outdoor ceremony, ask specifically how they handle audio. It's the difference between a film you can actually watch and one you'll struggle to hear.
Honestly, every season in The County is stunning — but late summer and fall are extraordinary. The vineyards turn gold and amber from August through October. The fields are full. The light is warm and horizontal. September and October in particular produce some of the most beautiful wedding footage we've ever captured.
Spring and early summer bring wildflowers, fresh greens, and that hopeful quality of the season. Winter weddings are intimate and dramatic — snow against limestone and bare vines is a look unto itself. Whatever time of year you choose, The County will deliver.
